Santa Margherita Ligure hosted from 1-3 September the International Arts and Sustainable Development Festival in the framework of the Posidonia Green Project, an annual event developed since 2008 in different parts of the Mediterranean region between Italy and Spain with a great public participation and involvement. Besides the cultural events foreseen, the Posidonia Green Festival 2017 program included also conferences, workshops for general public and small children.
Partners from the MPA-ADAPT project were there this year, Portofino Marine Protected Area (MPA) and ISPRA, and had the opportunity to explain the main activities of the MPA-ADAPT project and raise awareness about the role of MPA in climate change adaptation as well as the entrance of new species into the Mediterranean sea and the potential damages of their presence to the local economy.
The Portofino MPA staff took also the opportunity to do a survey among the public about the climate change and Portofino MPA. The results of this first survey will be used inside the MPA-Adapt Project permitting to understand the knowledge of the people on this topic.
This Festival was a perfect event to reach general public at local level and disseminate information on specific environmental topics affecting the region (sustainable fishing and resources consumption, sustainable mobility and climate change).
